During my TY year ive experienced a lot and have tried many new things. Since i was young i always knew i wanted to do TY if i had the choice to. Im quite young for my year and i would feel more comfortable leaving school, at 18 rather than 17 and i myself didnt think i was prepared to start the leaving cert straight after the junior cert so TY was a big help to that.
The 2 main things i wanted to get out of TY was to build up my cv well so i would have it for the future regarding jobs etc.
But what i really wanted was to try build up my confidence and not be so shy in class to talk in front of everyone which i do struggle but since doing TY i'd like to think that i have come out of my shell quiet a bit. 'Gaa with a twist' our show production and the 'Alan Devine public speaking workshop'and the 'Fainne' were a big help towards that.
I also said in my personal statement, that Mrs Murtagh asked us to write at the end of 3rd year that i would like to become closer with the people in my year , and i think i have really achieved that. Delphi was a huge help to that. From the minute we got to Delphi it was all about team work and helping each other out. Even just being with each other for the 2 days from morning right till the next day, sitting down for breakfast with each other and having a group campfire. I feel much more comfortable with everyone since Delphi, which i wouldn't have been up until then.
During the year i took part in many workshops and activities. My favorite ones were Dancing with Angela to prepare for our school show , Healthy Lifestyle programme with an ex army ranger and Gaa future leaders programme. One of the best things about TY are the workshops and activities that you get to take part in because when your in school you are studying and preparing for exams etc , so you probably wouldnt get the chance or opportunity to do such things but TY gives you that opportunity and in my opinion they really were worth it.
Another important aspect from Ty for me was preparing myself for the Leaving cert. Before the start of the school term i had no idea what subjects i wanted to do or which ones to drop. Ive always know since a young age what Ive wanted to do when I leave school , to either join the army or the guards , but i never know what subjects really did revolve around those jobs. Having a guidance class once a week with Mrs Lyons really helped me out as we got to go to the computer rooms every once in a while , whilst we were there our teacher told us about a website called 'career portal' which had every detail about a career you could be interested in and what subjects would be best to do so. This helped me out a lot and had a huge impact of the subjects i chose.
The thing that i would probably be most proud of was being apart and completing the Gaa Future Leaders Programme. I have a huge passion for camogie and Ty just seemed to strengthen it. When im older i would love to coach a camogie team and the programme helped me get a few steps closer to achieving that.
I became one of the 1st years camogie trainers for the year and i loved every bit of it. It was nice to encourage the 1st years to get involved in the sport and make it fun at the same time. If i didnt do TY i would have never of got the chance to do so.
Overall Ty was overall an amazing experience for me and i would love to do it all over again. At the start of the year i had 5 personally objectives that i wanted to try achieve and i think i have done so to the best of my ability and i am glad for it. I feel as am a more confident and out going person now and i am glad i made the decision to be a part of transition year.
